UA Library - Institutional Repository Team
The University of Arizona Libraries are implementing the Fedora open source software as the Library’s institutional repository (IR) system. At this point, there are no formalized definition and/or agreed upon goals, functions, policies, strategies and rules that will guide the creation of University Of Arizona Libraries (UAL) Institutional Repository.
Problem Statement:
The UAL needs to develop an institutional repository.(A university-based institutional repository is a set of
services that a university offers to the members of
its community for the management and
dissemination of digital materials created by the
institution and its community members. It is most
essentially an organizational commitment to the
stewardship of these digital materials, including
long-term preservation where appropriate, as well
as organization and access or distribution.

This project team must define the following in preparation for implementing the institutional repository for the University of Arizona Library:
- Library goals for the repository
- Library business rules for intake, document types, collaborator expectations, digitization standards, preservation fundamentals, and secondary services provided by the library.
- Library policies, including policies establishing many of the business rules that will be developed.
- Library marketing and publicizing strategies- An outreach plan for campus departments, research centers, administrative offices and other collaborative endeavors
- Functionality and services that can or should be offered to all entities described in the above bullets
Note: The phrase “outside entities” refers to any and all departments, offices and external collaborative endeavors outside of the UA Libraries,
