For some people, the most difficult part of writing a research paper is citing their sources. Don't let it worry you! The most important piece of information you need before you start your Bibliography or Works Cited is what style guide your faculty requires you to use. Some departments have agreed that all papers need to follow the same guide; some departments leave the choice of style guide up to the individual instructor. It could be that your English professor wants you to use a different style guide than your art history instructor has chosen. If the assignment calls for MLA and you follow the Chicago Style Manual, you are causing yourself unnecessary grief. If you have any doubt about what style guide you should use, ask your instructor. The University of Arizona Library Citation Guide supplies links concerning how to cite everything from books to e-mail in the major style guides. Feel free to review this tutorial from the beginning.
