Everyone wants to find the perfect image, but where to look? It depends on what kind of image you need. News photos can be found in the AP Photo Archives but probably not in the Art Museum Image Consortium. Think about what you are looking for, and then try these resources: American Memory (Library of Congress Digital Collections) AMICO (Art Museum Image Consortium) Exploring Images on the Internet (Rotch Visual Collections, MIT) Finding Images on the Web (Mugar Memorial Library, Boston University Libraries) Grove Dictionary of Art Online (check both the External Image Links and The Bridgeman Art Library) Heritage Gateway to Colorado's Digitization Project Historical Photograph Collection at the Arizona State Archives Imagen (CAPLA Slide Collection) The Photography Collection (Western History/Genealogy Dept., Denver Public Library) SABIO Reference Image Finder links to a wide variety of resources SPIRO (Architectural Visual Resources Library, UC Berkeley) Remember
that if you use images in research, you need to cite them just as you
do text to which you refer. Citing Sources provides
information for all types of citations. |
