What is Professional Literacy?
Being professionally literate means understanding the landscape of the academic field and its explicit and implicit structures and strictures. It means understanding the universe of employment and career opportunities both within and outside of academia. Professional literacies are rarely "taught" except, perhaps, as a component of the occassional "Research Methods" course or through mentoring relationships with faculty. Most often they are acquired either tangentially or quite by accident.
This portion of the website attempts to make the acquisition of professional literacy less random by identifying its component parts and providing focused information and access to resources.
