The Importance of Associations
Joining academic and professional associations, or just subscribing to relevant scholarly listservs, is an important step for any student of Slavic studies. Associations not only publish important career information, including conference schedules and job opportunities within the profession, they also are an excellent means of establishing contacts with more senior scholars and researchers and often provide young scholars with opportunities to present their work at regional or national conferences or publish in the association's scholarly journals. Membership rates for students tend to be discounted significantly. Some of the major and minor associations are listed below. For a listing of current conferences, check on the AATSEEL or REESWEB site.

Other Online Sources
- AATSEEL's List of Scheduled Conferences — This frequently updated list of conferences in Slavic languages and linguistics is probably the most comprehensive one out there. However, generally it does not list conferences in area studies, or other related fields.
- REESWEB — REESWEB, run out of the University of Pittsburgh, provides a list of upcoming events, including conferences, gallery openings, presentations, symposia, etc. However, because it is communally updated, it is rarely comprehensive. A good source all the same.
- REENIC — Run out of the University of Texas at Austin, REENIC has a page listing associations, conferences and other professional organziations and events for the Slavic Scholar.
- Slavic Eurasian Studies Web — Though this Slavic gateway does not seem to specifically index conferences or associations, it is still a good place to get this information. The best way may be to go by region.
