Electronic Dissertations

Purpose
We continue work with DLIST to ensure proper handling and implementation of UA's electronic dissertations project. This includes cancellation of microform copies as of September.

Related Library Goal/Strategy
Goal 1: Customers can identify, quickly obtain, evaluate, and use information that meets their education and research needs. Strategy: Improve the library’s technological systems and processes that provide unmediated transactions.

Status
The library has chosen to discontinue the order and receipt of microfiche. Future access will be electronic only, unless the thesis or dissertations cannot be presented electronically for some technical reason. Submission of thesis is optional.

Outsourcing Management Improvement

Purpose
Managing the quality and accuracy of the records and physical processing provided by our vendors is critical to easy, accurate access and the self-sufficiency of our customers. As our outsourcing continues to expand, staff will be looking closely at the outsourcing projects that are currently underway to solidify procedures, ensure contractual terms are being met, and making modifications as needed.

Status
Project has been brought in under DMAIC. New draft charge is out for review. Members continue to document vendor performance.

OCLC/Arabic Cataloging Project

Purpose
Project established with OCLC to work on TechPro cataloging in return for Chinese cataloging records for our scanning project.

Status
Project was accepted by Dean and contractual aggreement signed. MiddleEastern Cataloger and two students assigned to this Project.

Claims / Cancellations

Purpose
Many issues during TSAP Needs Assessment were raised concerning processes surrounding claims and cancellation procedures. TSAP will undertake a project to evaluate, revise, document, and implement needed changes
for these processes.

Status
Serials Cancellation Project Fall 2004 is 95% complete. We are awaiting final print materials for 2004 to close records and update a few remaining items. Claims project is now underway. Reviewing documentation and process.

TSAP Web Overhaul

Purpose
Based on input from various IS Team members, TSAP will be undertaking a project to evaluate methods of providing "virtual" listings of materials in need of review by IR Managers from the Damaged, Reference, Team, etc. shelves on the 5th floor. Part of the process will be to evaluate the TSAP Web site and make changes as appropriate to communicate this and other information to IR Managers.

Team also will be undertaking a project to determine the best methods of handling training, re-training, and supervision of temps and students through computer-based training.

Strategies: Conduct process improvement to improve services and cut costs; and Improve the ability of library staff to learn, change, adapt, create, re-imagine, and communicate.

Status
It will continue into this year as an established group to work on the intranet for the library. In addition, this group is creating computer-based training packages for students and temps, and supplying virtual review shelves for IR Managers.

Accumulations (continuing)

Purpose
TSAP will work on the next round of backlogged items and accumulations that have yet to be cataloged for the library.

We are focused heavily this fiscal year on Special Collections materials and collections within the CCP library.

In-house Circulation Statistics

Purpose
hand-off from IRC to TSAP, MAT, and DLIST to assess the feasibility of using PDA with barcode scanners to easily collect in-house use of materials.
