How Do I Manage My Search Results?
Bibliographic management software packages are designed to manage and organize citations.
Why Use Bibliographic Management Sofware?
- Bibliographic management software, such as RefWorks, allows a researcher to create a database or library of references.
- Records can be created for books, journal articles, book chapters, dissertations, art work, recordings, Web pages, letters, manuscripts, etc. These records can be entered manually or imported directly from a host of library catalogs and commercial databases.
- Once a record is in the database, the researcher can create bibliographies of all or selected records, search the database to find records on a specific subject or by an author, and format references in a specific bibliographic style while working in word processing software.
Examples of Bibliographic Management Software:
- RefWorks allows users to create personal databases of citations. Users can employ these references in writing papers and automatically format papers and bibliographies in seconds. This Web-based bibliographic management service is licensed by The Library for use by all current UA faculty, staff and students. Citations saved to RefWorks can be exported to EndNote. To sign up for an individual account, use the RefWorks New User Form.
- EndNote offers many features not available in RefWorks, making it a more poweful tool for researchers. It can be purchased from The Scholar's Workstation. Citations saved in RefWorks can be exported to EndNote. A version of of EndNote Web is provided free of charge to users of Web of Knowledge. See My EndNote Web.
