When To Call
DLIST members should only be contacted after work hours for emergency computer problems that have a major impact on the library's ability to perform its mission. Examples: all the computers in the IC are not functioning, all the circulation desk terminals are down, no access to the library's catalog, or no printing is possible. Before calling, please try to determine how many computers are affected by the problem. Be prepared to tell us step by step what happens when the problem occurs.
Please wait 15 minutes before calling to ensure that the problem hasn't "solved itself". Some network problem and other problems will correct themselves if given some time to do so.
When Not To Call Us About Problems
- When individual terminals are down.
- When the problem doesn't appear to be system wide and can wait until the morning.
What Information To Have When You Call
Please specify the following information if you leave a message:
- Name of caller.
- Date and time of call.
- Telephone number of caller (number where you will be - reference desk, office).
- Location of the problem.
- Description of the Problem:
- For example - PC's in the IC have no power.
- No web access throughout the Library.
- None of the printers in Science are printing.
- Power outage.
You might be asked by DLIST:
- How many machines are down to the best of your knowledge?
- Where exactly are the machines?
- Are the branch libraries affected?
- If the problem is with circulation, is the number of unprocessed transactions in SABIO (Innopac) increasing?
- Are other network services also disrupted (i.e, can students connect to thier webmail, or connect to the internet outside the library)?
- Has there been any unusual occurrences on campus that might affect our computers (i.e. a power failure or evacuation of campus buildings)?
