The Information Commons portion of the ILC, extending into the Main Library, will have 29,000 square feet of space housing 250 computer workstations, 50 multimedia workstations, 25 breakout and group meeting rooms, an electronic classroom, 120 "wired workspaces", a centralized printing and mail area and a central help/support desk.
The Information Commons will support librarians helping and teaching information research strategies and skills, teaching assistants helping individuals and groups of students working on class assignments and individuals and groups of students accessing information in print and on-line. The area will be focused on first and second year students and their information and learning support needs.
