Some questions came up again about how to log in to the machines in the
Main Elec, A315, so I thought maybe my stuff last month was too long.
Here's a short version you can cut and paste then print out.
LOGGING IN TO PUBLIC WINDOWS NT MACHINES
Applies to:
MN-PUB01 and higher;
MN-ELEC01 through 12;
SE-PUB01 and higher, with one
exception.
Press control-alt-delete
in the top line for "username" put the name of the machine
(refer to label on machine), for example, "MN-PUB33"
on the 2nd line, "from" click on the arrow at the right, choose
"LIB-NT"
on the 3rd line, "password" leave it blank. Click on OK.
Notes:
The entries that first appear in these fields when you
press control-alt-delete are for whatever the last login was, not
what you should be using; go by these instructions instead.
There is a machine in sci. ref. in the northeast part near the
offices that is not on the network, it's for loading and testing
cdrom software; on that one the "from" field has to be the same as
the "username" field, there's no other choice.
These instructions are for the public use of the machines, if you
want to use a machine as a staff person (for example in the Elec or at
the science ref. desk) use your own account, but please remember to
log out when you're done.
