The ITL Project for establishing a minimum skill level among library staff in the use of computer technology and equipment (please refer to the Project Team Plan) is similar to those at the University of Oregon and the University of Washington for training incoming students, and there may be elements from them we could borrow.
Another source of useful information is a staff survey developed and administered by Mike Bernardo.
We may decide that the Web itslef could be a useful medium for instruction. Check out the InterNIC 15 Minute Series for an entertaining example of this. Editorial Comment: it lacks the instantaneous user feedback a true and effective programmed instruction module would require.
A sub-team on Terminology is working up a small guide for commonly-used terms.
Robert Grunloh is contributing a weekly series of tips on using our PCs:
See also Teri's Tips for helpful information on using the Netscape navigator. In addition, Teri and the team have assembled a Resource Guide of staff who have identified themselves as resources in various areas of information technologies (the web page author has just realized, to his embarrassment, that he failed to fill out the staff survey form...).
Maintained (so far) by Spencer Hunter, who has designed a training module on introducing the campus network.
Other training modules:
Dizzy Basics for Home Pages, by Miceala Morales.
FTP Basics, by Bobbie Atchison.
